What makes us the trusted firm for Fortune 500 companies, government leaders and business visionaries? We are a dynamic team of 200 attorneys who share a unique understanding of the issues that drive business solutions.
We offer our clients a rare combination of sound legal counsel, innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit. And we have what it takes to deliver real-world results-the resources, experience and expertise to succeed in the most complex business transactions, oppressive regulatory challenges and intimidating litigation battles.
A Network of Resources
Starting with a single office in 1855, Hiscock & Barclay has grown in both size and reputation. As our client base and expertise have expanded, we have evolved into a firm with eight offices and a tremendous depth and breadth of services—the only law firm with such a strategic and substantial presence across New York State and the Northeast with offices in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, New York and in Washington, D.C. and the Boston and Toronto areas.
Our 28 practice areas encompass a vast range of focus areas critical to today’s business climate, including energy and utility, the environment, labor and employment, torts, insurance and products liability, healthcare and human services, and real property tax. We have unparalleled experience in such unique areas of the law as Indian law and lobbying compliance and election law, and are in the forefront of such rapidly evolving areas as intellectual property law.
From our offices in Albany, Boston, Buffalo, New York, Rochester, Syracuse, Toronto and Washington, D.C., we represent clients throughout the Northeast, as well as across the entire U.S. and Canada. Our ability to provide not only regional insight and accessibility, but national perspectives and international capabilities, makes Hiscock & Barclay the firm to hire for companies doing business in New York and the Northeast.
Service That Exceeds Expectations
One of the fundamental keys to the success of Hiscock & Barclay is our commitment to delivering service that exceeds expectations.
Regardless of where a legal matter originates or where a client is based, we establish a team of dedicated professionals who take the time to understand the client’s needs. We provide the expertise needed to get results, efficiently and cost-effectively, letting the results drive the process rather than the process determine the results.
Because a firm’s strength and longevity ultimately depend on the quality of its lawyers and staff, we also recruit top professionals and nurture their personal and professional development. Our goal is to create a workplace of choice, founded on principles of diversity and guided by a commitment to professional excellence. Consequently, our firm is gifted with remarkable talent and experience.
Among our attorneys you will find not only legal experts, but the former general counsels of New York State’s Department of Environmental Conservation, Public Service Commission, Power Authority, Health Planning Commission, and Department of Social Services; a former VP of a national diversified energy company; the former general counsel of a North American trade association; current and former elected state officials; even a former NFL football player, best-selling author and nationally syndicated media commentator.
We are fortunate to attract individuals who embody the passion for excellence instilled by former partner H. Douglas Barclay, who spent more than 40 years with our firm. In addition to serving as a member of the New York State Senate for two decades, Mr. Barclay was appointed a director of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation by President George H.W. Bush and more recently served as U.S. ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador by appointment of President George W. Bush.
Another noteworthy member of the firm is prominent partner Donald S. Day. In 1948, following his captivity as a World War II prisoner of war, Mr. Day joined what was then the Buffalo law firm Saperston & Day. Since then, he has developed a worldwide reputation for his commitment to community service, including his work as former president of an international organization seeking to ensure equal educational and employment opportunities for people of all faiths.
Extraordinary People, Extraordinary Achievements
As you can see, Hiscock & Barclay is more than a law firm. We are an organization of extraordinary people achieving extraordinary things, both for our clients and our communities.
